TIPS FOR BATHROOM REMODELING

When you begin planning a new project, there are a variety of items to consider. Whether you are preparing to remodel your kitchen, bathroom, living room, or bedroom, you will want to map out all of the elements that will create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for yourself and others.

Choosing Your Elements

What do tile, hardware finishes, wall art, and textiles have in common? They all work together to create a space that you call "home"! When planned out properly, every aspect of your room can create an atmosphere that represents your personal taste. In this post we will focus on an area of the home that sees a considerable amount of traffic - the bathroom!

10 Things to Consider When Designing a Bathroom

  • Color Scheme (from the walls to the shower curtain and towels)

  • Tile

  • Hardware

  • Shower and/or Tub Style

  • Showerhead

  • Lighting

  • Mirror and Wall Décor

  • Flooring

  • Vanity

  • Storage

Are your gears turning yet? We are sure they are! It might be a list of only 10 things but somehow, it still seems so complex. Let us throw out some more suggestions based on this list to help you start planning your dream bathroom.

Color Scheme

While accent walls and wallpaper are really fun to experiment with, using a neutral color on your walls and vanity will make it easier to match fabric and textiles. Items such as towels and shower curtains do not exactly stand the test of time. If you are a creative personality, your tastes may change frequently and it's a lot easier to change the color of your towels than it is to paint your walls.

Storage and Organization

In addition to your typical items such as toilet paper, toothbrushes, and soaps, bathrooms tend to accumulate a lot of "stuff". Having a clean and organized space will not only help you keep track of items but will also reduce stress levels and make you feel more comfortable in your own space. If your bathroom or hallway area outside of the bathroom does not come with a linen closet, you may want to consider including one in your project plan or find a vanity that offers a decent amount of storage. Other options to consider might include shelving and/or a recessed medicine cabinet with a mirror.

Creating a Comfortable Bathroom

Elements such as lighting, the style of your showerhead, and the fabrics can all play a role in bringing you comfort.

  • People typically spend a fair amount of time in front of the mirror and great lighting is important. You won't want your level of lighting to be overpowering but also won't want to choose something that is too dim. When selecting the light fixture that will work best for you, also consider the size of the bathroom.

  • Do you prefer your shower to feel like a gentle spring rain? Perhaps you enjoy feeling like you are under the rushing water of a fire hose. Maybe you are torn between the two because it really just depends on your mood! There are many shower heads out there that can cater to your needs so make sure you select one that provides the right amount of pressure, has a finish that blends into your overall design, and fits your space.

  • The softness of your towels and plushness of the rug under your feet have a way of sending you to tranquility. Focus on touch and visual aesthetics when you are carefully selecting the towel, rug, and shower curtain ensemble that best represents your personal tastes and you're sure to always feel right at home.
